Between Research @ Italian Design Day [Design and Material]

Jul 08, 2021

Last week, Between Research was invited to participate in the Italian Design Day, an event organized by the Consulate General of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Shanghai, in collaboration with ITA - Agenzia Shanghai at the prestigious Bund 33 in the presence of a qualified public sector.

This year's theme is "Design and Materials," and the new relationship between design and materials underpins the idea of a "recycling city," in which waste is recycled in a way that mimics metabolism. This topic is a new economic concept, it is a model based on the concept of circular economy: it does not produce waste because the discarded materials can be reused as a resource.
The success of such a model relies on education and lifestyle changes for the urban population, especially the younger generation, fully adopting "reusing" and "recycling".

World-class Design Architect,Aldo Cibic

At the event, Aldo Cibic said, “Innovative projects linking design and circular economy”. He is the Ambassador of Italian Design in Shanghai, and also a very famous Italian architect. He is one of the founders of the revolutionary brand Memphis and an honorary professor of Tongji University in Shanghai. He was awarded "2019 100+ Best Architecture Companies" by Domus for his outstanding cultural innovation ability.

Between Research launched the Between Conscious Program with a strong awareness of the urgency for the fashion industry to appoint it as a main challenge for the whole supply chain. An urgency we found in the words of some of the main speakers of the day. Such as Stefano Boeri, president of the Milan Triennale and renowned architect. You might have heard of the vertical forest in Milan, Italy: one of his signature works influenced by sustainable design. He is, in fact, one of our Between Conscious Program's ambassadors, and highlighted sustainability as one of the topics behind the next TRIENNALE di Milano Exhibit.

Designers are perhaps the first professionals coming to our minds when we think of the fashion industry, and the transition to sustainability requires a strong commitment from their side in terms of research and development to optimize resources, avoid waste and find new solutions in the production process. Italian Design Day 2021 was the perfect audience for us to introduce the Between Conscious Program among participants. Cherie Ding - Between Research General Manager for APAC countries - found a growing interest in the topic and several high-level professionals that can find in the Between Conscious Program the tool to be connected in a virtuous network with a growing potential to boost a sustainable transition.

Let’s make a difference. Together.”
