Between Conscious Program @ Shanghai Fashion Week 2021
Shanghai Fashion Week, one of the biggest fashion weeks in the World, has come to a close on Sunday, October 16th. Sustainability was at the heart of this season’s programming: as Between Conscious Program, we were happy to be invited and visit the space and all the initiatives about sustainability presented during this edition of Shanghai Fashion Week.
" ULIO SPACE " is the largest and most influential comprehensive sustainable Space during Shanghai Fashion Week,it was conceived to host B2B brands, thus hinting at the comprehensive approach that of the exhibit - and of the whole program - when it comes to the future of fashion: from materials to digital technology, from recycling to retail platforms. But it also was ready to welcome the public, willing to communicate the fashion sustainability concept to consumers.
Ulio space also hosted the “La Mode en Vert” exhibition. The event, supported by Pro Helvetia Shanghai, Swiss Art Council, really met the concept to drive the change in the fashion industry with a comprehensive approach.
The exhibit featured a wide range of brands offering a vision over the best efforts made in sustainable fashion development under the perspective of researchers, manufacturers, designers and consumers. Also like hosted the latest collection by FREITAG, YVY, Rafael Kouto, Forbidden Deinmeries, Palmagente, and NINA YUUN.
Such a holistic approach is itself a statement for Switzerland to position itself as one of the most advanced - if not the most advanced overall - among the European countries in this field. What’s more, such a core positioning in the Shanghai Fashion Week program calls for the will to bring those developments closer to the Chinese market.
An effort that easily matches our mission.
Thanks to more than twenty years long experience at connecting people in the industry in the Italian, European and Asian market, BETWEEN with the BETWEEN CONSCIOUS PROGRAM has brought sustainable fashion pioneers in the Chinese market.
Thanks to our platform, top professionals can find and share sources related to the industry. No matter their field of specialization, while submitting their profile on it, they can build connections and become part of a benign network, thus making it grow and allowing it to promote further sustainable developments in the fashion industry.
Among the hosted brands, our attention was captured by NIO Life and their collection BLUE SKY LAB, completely developed from the upcycling of remaining materials in automobile manufacturing (such as airbag fabric and seatbelts). A fascinating declination of the concept of industry integration and an out-of-the-box solution to reduce the impact of fashion. A nomadic lifestyle collection in collaboration with architectural designer Shuhei Aoyama and launched during Shanghai fashion week this year.
On the manufacturing side, we have seen some very interesting samples from Kane Top Group that presented some sustainable solutions developed with top brands - such as Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger - and very original ones, like the proposal of design solution based on reshaping, deconstructing, and putting pieces back together. A concept that combines creativity with a zero-waste approach.
Initiatives spread through the whole city. At the same time, a natural silent show took place at the Slash Workshop space, in Xinhua Road. An initiative that involved children and people from around the neighbourhood. Among them sharing of sustainable fabrics, remodelling workshops and a “sustainable wild market”.
Nine brands presented and displayed their sustainable creations:
